September 30, 2007

According to the Google Checkout Blog, the big G have just launched Google Checkout for Non-Profits – with no charges at all either per-transaction or percentage until at least the end of 2008. So far though, this looks like it’s just for US based NFP’s. I’ll have a poke about the infosuperhighweb and see if… [Read more…]

UPDATE 08/10/07: Launchball went live again on Friday 5th Oct..   Well, I had a suspicion that Launchball might turn out to be pretty successful… Unfortunately the guys at the Science Museum tell me that having struggled all day trying to get it to stay live they’ve had to temporarily remove it following a huge response… [Read more…]

Museums, labels and terrible histories in IT

September 26, 2007

As everyone knows, terrible mistakes are often made in IT procurement. Anyone who has ever tried to apply some holistic thinking to institutional systems (“hey, let’s publish X from legacy database Y on the web!”) will have come across this. September 10, 2007

Richard MacManus is doing a Read/Write Web feature series on NFP’s which looks like it’s going to be interesting. He’s going to focus on how Not for Profits use the web and the various tools available. In his first post he cites a 2004 article from Wired which I haven’t seen before which suggests that… [Read more…]

Open Education search

September 5, 2007

As some of you might remember, I put together www.museumcollections.org.uk a while back to demonstrate what could be done for collections searching with next to no cash (a fiver to register a domain), time (20 mins, tops) or effort (cut and paste). Underneath this is Google coop, an implementation of the big G’s search engine… [Read more…]

Stunning image sizing

Before I get going, a quick apology for being a little bit slack on the Electronic Museum blog recently. The run-up and early arrival of young Rohan Ellis on Tuesday 28th, plus the fact that I’m leaving my job mid-September are both eating into the free time I rely on for browing and writing…I’ll be… [Read more…]
